The OPPO Air Glass are the first assisted reality glasses of the Chinese march that were presented during the last part of the year 2021, in its so-called INNO Day . Its definitive arrival on the market is estimated for this first part of the year 2022, although for the moment its commercialization will only take place in Chinese territory.
We will have to wait longer for Westerners to have this kind of wearable in our hands , but we must stop at glasses that promise as much media discussion as those that Google once had , today disappeared from the face of the earth .
OPPO Air Glass, for assisted reality
In this case at hand, we are talking about an innovative assisted reality device, equipped with a microprojector, a state-of-the-art micro LED and a custom-made diffraction optical waveguide screen. This family of technologies supports four different user interactions through touch, voice, head movement, and hand movement, giving users super-fast access to whatever information they need.
“OPPO has been exploring the possibilities of Extended Reality (XR) for a long time, and with Air Glass, we have finally created a smart glass product that is truly affordable for consumers,” said Levin Liu , Vice President of the brand. ».
The glasses are presented under a very futuristic aspect (Tom Cruise could well wear them on one of his impossible missions), but beyond this detail, the great impact that the developer brand is looking for is to change the way we see and consume information. The user-friendly display can present the key messages we need right in front of our eyes. Those responsible are blunt with their new invention: “With OPPO Air Glass, the world will never be the same again.”
A fairly light monocle
There are more details. OPPO Air Glass are built around an innovative monocular waveguide design. Based on OPPO’s distinctive design philosophy, Air Glass features free-flowing curves, giving rise to its light and minimalist look. White in color with a total weight of approximately 30g , OPPO Air Glass is one of the lightest monocular waveguide devices in the industry and can be worn like a pair of regular glasses.
The design of the main body is inspired by pens: light, elegant and curved, with a touch bar that resembles a graceful shaft of a pen. The waveguide monocular lens design, meanwhile, is inspired by the wings of the cicada, breaking the conventional confines of round or rectangular eyeglass lenses. The lens is attached to a slim, lightweight frame, which houses all the components, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform.
The frame of OPPO Air Glass is made by CNC technique, which gives the design a touch of exquisiteness and precision. OPPO Air Glass’s unique and eye-catching design makes it a stylish tech accessory to carry every day, even when you’re not using it.
The microprojector: the jewel of these glasses
Finished with state-of-the-art micro LEDs and five high-transparency glass lenses, the self-developed Spark microprojector offers a state-of-the-art aR experience. Integrating OPPO’s own micro projector, advanced micro LED, and custom waveguide technology, OPPO Air Glass delivers bright and clear content indoors and outdoors, ensuring a superior aR experience at all times.
At the heart of the OPPO Air Glass display system is OPPO’s self-developed Spark microprojector, one of the most compact projection systems in the industry, measuring just 0.5cc, or about the size of a grain of grain. coffee. The projector features a CNC metal case with a glass lens module to provide better heat dissipation and stability. The projector is powered by a state-of-the-art Micro LED, which has a brightness of up to 3 million nits.
OPPO Air Glass adopts a custom-made optical diffraction waveguide, which supports two display modes – 16-level grayscale and 256-level grayscale – and can deliver up to 1400 nits of average brightness, ensuring a vivid and sharp display in different lighting conditions. Additionally, two layers of sapphire crystal are used to coat the waveguide on both sides, providing protection with increased transparency.
OPPO Air Glass is designed to be accessible to as many people as possible, including users with refractive errors such as nearsightedness and farsightedness. The glasses are available in two different frame types: a silver half frame and a black full frame which may better suit wearers who need corrective glasses. Both colors are available in two sizes.
How does OPPO Air Glass work?
OPPO Air Glass can be operated via the Smart Glass app on OPPO Watch 2 and any OPPO smartphone installed with ColorOS 11 or higher versions. It also supports four intuitive methods of interaction: touch, voice, hand movements, and head movements.
When Air Glass is paired with an OPPO Watch 2, users can also use hand gestures to confirm, cancel, and switch app cards. Also, for a whole new way of interaction, Air Glass can recognize head movements, for example, gently nodding or shaking your head can open and close notifications, respectively.
Once linked with our mobile, the glasses automatically link with a variety of applications, including those developed by OPPO. These include Weather, Calendar, Health, Teleprompter, Translation, and Navigation.
Of all of them, the translation function can be of great help for intercultural communication. Once paired, one user’s voice will be automatically translated into text in the target language and immediately displayed on the other user’s Air Glass. Air Glass currently supports Mandarin Chinese-English bidirectional translation, and Mandarin Chinese-Japanese and Mandarin Chinese-Korean will be offered in the future.
We will also be surprised by another innovative application of Air Glass such as the Teleprompter, which allows an adaptable text display so that your presentation at work or in public is child’s play.
