Microsoft has recently released update KB4090007 for Windows 10 Version 1709 Fall Creators Update . Microsoft calls the update itself
Intel microcode update
denotes and announces the following information about this very small update KB4090007 .
Intel recently announced that Intel has completed its validations and released the microcode for newer CPU platforms with Specter Variant 2 (CVE 2017-5715 (“Branch Target Injection”)). This new update KB4090007 now contains the new microcode from Intel for the following CPUs:
- Skylake H / S 6th generation Intel Core processor family 506E3 0xC2 V1.001
- Skylake U / Y & Skylake U23e 6th generation Intel Core m processors 406E3 0xC2 V1.001
This Windows 10 Version 1709 Update KB4090007 is a standalone update that is currently only available from the Microsoft Update Catalog and is only designed for Windows 10 Version 1709 (Fall Creators Update) and Windows Server Version 1709 (Server Core). This update is not yet rolled out via the integrated Windows Update function. So every user who wants to install this Specter Security Update must download the update from the Windows Update Catalog.
This update KB4090007 also includes Intel microcode updates that were released for these operating systems at the time of RTM (Release to Manufacturing) release. Microsoft will offer further microcode updates from Intel for all operating systems as soon as they are available for Microsoft.
Warning: Microsoft explicitly points out that everyone should first contact the manufacturer of their hardware or their website should look for information before installing this microcode update KB4090007 on the PC.
We have already installed the update and so far have not been able to determine any negative influences. Nevertheless, we would warn against rolling out this update on a large scale.
